On and around the water

Explore Swan Lake

Thirty acres of lake, swans and silence. Cast a line off the dock or from a kayak, and watch the residents who were here first — the fish, the birds and Romeo and Juliet.

Animals of Swan Lake

The residents who were here first

The lake has its own crowd. The resort's black swans, Romeo and Juliet, are the unofficial hosts; largemouth bass hold the weed lines; and the shoreline is busy with birds — the lake sits beside a bird sanctuary, so bring binoculars and walk the trails at first light.

Romeo & JulietThe black swans who live on the lake — give them a wide berth and they will glide over to whoever is on the dock.

Birds on the shoreEagles work the shoreline too — this one sat on the dock taking in the lake. The bird sanctuary is close enough to make binoculars worth packing.

Deer on the bankA white-tailed deer and the black swans sharing the same stretch of bank — the deer keeping watch while the swans rest at the water's edge.

Bass in the waterThe lake's best-known resident is the one on the end of your line — largemouth bass off the dock, the shore or a kayak.

Wildlife is wildlife — what turns up on any given morning is part of the fun, so keep the distance respectful and the snacks in the house.
